Ancestors in German Archives: A Guide to Family History Sources
Raymond S. Wright III, Nathan S. Rives, Mirjam Kirkham, & Saskia Schier Bunting
 |
Production began in 1996 as part of the German Immigrant Ancestors Project at Brigham Young University. About 2,000 archives in the Federal Republic of Germany were identified and sent a questionnaire about the records preserved in their archives and the services provided by the archives’ staff members. The returned questionnaires were used to create summaries of each archive’s jurisdictions, holdings, and services. The resulting publication includes summaries of archival jurisdictions, holdings, and services of archives in Baden-Württemberg, Bayern (Bavaria), Berlin, Brandenburg, Bremen, Hamburg, Hessen (Hesse), Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (Mecklenburg-West Pomerania), Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony), Nordrhein-Westfalen (North Rhine-Westphalia), Rheinland-Pfalz (Rhineland-Palatinate), Saarland, Sachsen (Saxony), Sachsen-Anhalt (Saxony-Anhalt), Schleswig-Holstein, and Thüringen (Thuringia).
